An emissions-cheating scandal affecting 11 million Volkswagen cars worldwide widened on 22 October 2015 as Europe's biggest carmaker said it is investigating whether a second type of engine had cheating software installed. So far, the crisis has revolved around EA 189 diesel engines in Volkswagen, Audi, Seat and Skoda cars and vans. The company is now looking at the earliest versions of the EA 288 engine introduced in 2012 as a successor to the EA 189, a spokesman said.
