The cavern storage facility, which measures seven by four and a half kilometers and has a volume of up to 300 million cubic meters, secures the supply of natural gas to gas customers in northern Germany. The storage facility is located in an extensive salt dome beneath the surface of the "Kraaker Tannen" and has a storage capacity of 2,400 gigawatt hours of natural gas.
