May 17, 2023, London, United Kingdom: A renowned designer has created a dress made out of cake featuring a record breaking 25,000 edible flowers. Debbie Wingham has been called the Countess of Confection by Food Network thanks to her famous life-size cakes of celebrities, including Kim Kardashian, Karl Lagerfeld and Ru Paul. She even crafted a lavish a million-dollar wedding cake that was dripping in diamonds .And now Debbie is back in her apron and has curated an incredible life-size vintage inspired haute couture mannequin cake, adorned with an edible gown. The cake itself was created to mark the launch of Bread Aheads afternoon tea, which will be served in their new tearoom located above the Bread Ahead Boutique in the heart of Chelsea .Also inspired by The Chelsea Flower Show, which starts next week, the back of the dress is embellished with more than 25,000 edible flowers - the largest number of edible flowers ever featured on a cake .Every flower was cut individually with a flower press cutter and crafted from rice paper. It's no surprise that the complex design took Debbie months to craft. The flowers include hydrangeas, Phalaenopsis Orchids and Dendrobium Orchids created from petal paste .To create the huge cake, Debbie worked with ginormous amounts of ingredients. They included 300 eggs, 25 boxes of Rice Krispie treats, 29kg of couture sugar paste and 13,000 baby marshmallows. She also used almost half a ton of flour, which is around 1000 pounds. To put that into context, that's roughly the same weight as a small horse! The skirt of the dress is crafted from different flavour profiles from afternoon tea, such as creme mousseline and raspberry jam. The back of the gown contains the most edible flowers and also includes dark chocolate sponge with poached cherries and Chantilly cream. There's also a layer of chocolate ganache and an outer layer of suga - 20230517_PD11007 - Rechteinfo: Rights Managed (RM)
