VERIFICATION: Reuters was able to confirm the location by the runway layout, buildings, utility towers and terrain seen in the photographs which matched satellite imagery of the area. The plane design and markings matched file imagery of E-3 AWACS aircraft. A U.S. official confirmed to Reuters that an E3 was damaged in a strike on the airbase on March 27. Same model aircraft is seen undamaged in the same position on the tarmac in satellite imagery from March 11. Satellite imagery from March 29 shows what appears to be a blackened section of the tarmac in the same position where the damaged plane is visible in the photographs.
