Miley Cyrus (21) ist die Gewinnerin des MTV Awards für das Video des Jahres. Die Sängerin gewann am Sonntagabend in Inglewood bei Los Angeles die Trophäe für ihr Skandalvideo "Wrecking Ball". In dem Video sitzt sie nackt auf einer Abrissbirne, was für begeisterte Jugendliche und besorgte Erwachsene sorgte.

Auf dem Programm standen heuer unter anderem Auftritte von und Maroon 5. Durch das Programm führten Schauspielerin und Sängerin Lucy Hale, Lorde, Demi Lovato, Jason Derulo und einige andere.
Beyoncé war Siegerin der Herzen
Eigentlich hätte es ja der große Abend der Beyoncé Knowles werden sollen: Mit acht Nominierungen ging die Popkönigin als große Favoritin in die Verleihung. Und obwohl die wichtigen Preise von anderen abgeräumt wurden, blieb die Texanerin die Gewinnerin des Abends.
Drei Preise - für die beste Kollaboration ("Drunk In Love" mit Jay-Z), das beste Video mit einer sozialen Botschaft und die beste Kameraführung (beide Male "Pretty Hurts") - konnt sie mit nach Hause nehmen. Zum Schluss der Show beherrschte Beyoncé den Abend mit einer atemberaubenden Nummer: "MTV, welcome to my world" sagte die 32-Jährige, ehe sie ein 15-minütiges, furioses Medley an Songs aus ihrem aktuellen, selbstbetitelten Album darbot.
Zuletzt kamen ihr Ehemann Jay-Z und die gemeinsame Tochter Blue Ivy, zweieinhalb Jahre alt, auf die Bühne, um ihr den Sonderpreis "Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award" für ihr Lebenswerk zu überreichen. Beyoncé dankte es ihnen mit einer Liebeserklärung, die auch die seit längerem kursierenden Trennungsgerüchte vertreiben dürfte.
Die Verleihung der kurz "VMA" genannten Preise ging am 24. August im kalifornischen Inglewood über die Bühne.
